A menos que se recupere el equilibrio entre las funciones económicas relativas del Estado y los mercados, las protestas de 2011 se agravarán y la inestabilidad política y social perjudicará el crecimiento económico y el bienestar social a largo plazo.
Any economic model that does not properly address inequality will eventually face a crisis of legitimacy. Unless the relative economic roles of the market and the state are rebalanced, the protests of 2011 will become more severe, with social and political instability eventually harming long-term economic growth and welfare.
Un modèle économique qui ne corrige pas les inégalités est condamné à une crise de légitimité. Si l’on ne réexamine pas les rôles économiques respectifs du marché et de l’Etat, les manifestations de 2011 redoubleront d’intensité, tandis que l’instabilité sociale et politique menacera la croissance à long terme et la protection sociale.
